My Invitation

My Invitation_ Monday 12%2F11.png

My personal story of the Mother’s Prayer Companion began when my third baby was born. I was in a postpartum haze, but I can still remember the day Jenny Klement first told me about what she had created. A friend and I were at Jenny’s house for a family brunch. There Jenny sat - on the bottom step of her stairs, with my friend and I literally sitting on the floor at her feet, and our crawling babies and busy toddlers climbing on top of us.

God has a funny sense of humor. And the story He has been writing for me is filled with irony, unexpected plots, and a heaping of humble lessons. And if you’ll allow me, I’d like to share with you some cliff notes. Lemme introduce myself.

Whether you know Jenny personally, or you have an image of who she is based on her videos, talks or blogs - she’s an adorable bubbly blonde with amazing talent, she’s in the details, and has a gentle way of doing life. She is a petite gal with a heart the size of Texas. She is so good at connecting, and is so compassionate and empathetic. Her joy for life is as contagious as her smile. Now close your eyes and imagine the exact opposite person...

Hi. (<--that’s me waving)

I’m a high functioning introvert; a burning hot choleric. I pay zero attention to details, I’m hyper competitive, and I (sometimes) struggle in the warm and fuzzy department. Aren’t you so glad you found me? Wait, before you go clicking onto (insert better mom blog), hear me out.

What unites Jenny and me is simple - we’re moms; our heartbeats share the same rhythm. We’re passionate about prayer, we breathe in deeply the precious gift of our children, we’re in love with Jesus Christ, and we want to encourage all you mama bears out there!

You still with me? I hope so.

Through a big, long, totally awesome God-story, Jenny and I have found ourselves clasping hands as we step out, and invite you to join us in a movement - a force - that we know with every fiber of our beings is unstoppable. The power of praying moms! Together, we’re rallying the troops - asking you to join us as we fight for our children, our spouses, ourselves - through the powerful gift of prayer.

Jenny’s video on the story of the MPC  warmly invited you into the MPC journey. She spoke beautifully about how each of us has a story and how our loving Father, the Divine Author, is revealing new chapters to us each and every day.

My story of the MPC was beginning to be revealed to me the day I sat at Jenny’s feet - and she extended this same loving invitation my way.

With the MPC in her hands, Jenny passionately told us what inspired her to create it. I was hanging on - to every. single. word. of her story - because as the mother of three babies (ages 3 and younger), I was hanging on for dear life. As she vulnerably shared about her newfound mission to inspire moms to pray, my girlfriend and I were both in tears.

Tears filled my eyes, because I was so inspired, yet so intimidated at the same time.  The peace Jenny described seemed like an unreachable destination. I couldn’t imagine how I would ever get there. When you’re in the throes of transitioning into a new family, marriage and motherhood get a little muddy. Sometimes the muddy moments have you thinking you’re stuck - forever.

(Every postpartum mama has felt this within the first 72 hours of their child’s birth. Am I right?)

But that morning, if I had bought into the lie that what Jenny was offering me was beyond my grasp, I would have missed one of the greatest chapters in my personal story.

Remember I shared that I’m a raging choleric? That’s fancy for I’m a go getter, and the minute Jenny placed that beautiful blue book in my hands I knew it was time for me to rise up (and rinse off all that mud). This book was everything I’d been longing for in my lonely, confused, anxious moments as a mother.

This was it. This was the peace I was craving - that could only come from prayer.

When I accepted that book, I accepted an invitation, and I no longer had to live my life of merely surviving. And you know what else? It was ok that at times I wasn’t thriving either. Truth is, this MPC journey is actually a tale of striving... striving to surrender through prayer.

“Come to me all you are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

The rest I desired was actually Jesus. That peace, that destination Jenny offered me wasn’t outside of my grasp. It was right in front of me! He was right in front of me! Waiting. So, I offer you the same invitation our Lord and Jenny offered me. Come. I hope you will join us. And so does He ;)

I am so excited for you to clasp hands with us and embrace your own story. I promise God will move in big ways; and as you pray with the MPC, He will transform you - as a wife, a mother, a child of God.

Stef Blackwell

Stef Blackwell and her husband are raising their four kids and living the dream deep in the heart of suburbia, Flower Mound, TX. She’s a raging choleric and high functioning introvert, which some have said is impossible. But alas, here she lives to tell her tale. Her greatest strength is bossing people around; her greatest weakness is she bosses people around - and Jesus loves her just the way she is - today. She looks for the one mama who is standing alone and strives to bring them into the fold. God has given her a passion for marriage, motherhood, and living missionally.
